Description
The formability of friction stir welded aluminium alloy tailored welded blanks (TWBs), as used in the automotive industry, was analysed, based on hardening exponent and anisotropy values obtained from tensile tests (parallel and normal to loading direction), and the TWBs were also stamped into a complex shape to demonstrate the influence of the multi deformation modes on formability behaviour. TWBs were produced from non-heat treatable 5754-H22 and heat treatable 6181-T4 Al alloys (thickness 1-2 mm). The deep drawing tool (shapes of stamp and die) was designed in such a way as to simulate real production conditions. Local deformation after the forming process was investigated using photogrammetric principles.
