Description
The production of aluminium alloy forged suspension parts for light-weight vehicles using circumferential friction stir welding (FSW) is considered. The suspension arm is composed of three extruded shapes (bush bracket, yoke and pipe) joined by FSW. The arm is made of A-6061-T6. The fatigue and corrosion properties of the arm were examined. The manufacturing process for the suspension arm is outlined. The quality assurance process is discussed. The relationship between tensile strength of the friction stir welded joint and the area fraction of defects is considered.
