Description

A brief review is presented of the RIFTEC welding job shop, a major supplier for friction stir welded components in Germany, and Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) in Austria and some of their applications to railway, automotive and electronic industries. Issues discussed include: friction stir welding capabilities within the HAI Group; friction stir welding of roof and wall sections as well as highly loaded front end structures for Siemens Inspiro trains; the monolithic single extrusion design for friction stir welded structures; and integrated cooling housings for the automotive and electronic industries, particularly the DC/DC converter or charger for automotive applications.
