Description
The swept frequency friction stir spot welding technique was employed to fabricate lap joints in 6061 aluminium alloy workpieces and the influence of process parameters on mechanical properties was investigated. Welding experiments were conducted using a CNC milling machine and an "Octaspot" tool path at rotational speeds of 2000-3000 rpm, traverse speeds of 50-70 mm/min and a plunge depth of 1.6 mm. Lap shear tests were performed with a universal testing machine. The relationships between maximum lap shear load and tool traverse speed and rotational speed are discussed.
