Description
The hybrid component of the combination magnesiums lightness and aluminums formability should be useful for energy saving. The welding of dissimilar metallic materials is difficult for their difference in melting temperatures and the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds. Especially, in fusion welded Mg/Al joint is very brittle, because of the large amount of the intermetallic phase formation. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process. It uses the frictional heat between the high speed rotating tool and the sample. The process temperature and condition of stirring can be changed by FSW conditions. Therefore, the formation of intermetallic compounds could be changed by the FSW condition control.
