Description

A man-machine interface for friction stir welding (FSW) was proposed that allows a human operator to augment a traditional control system by monitoring and continuously adjusting the parameters of an established welding programme, and hardware and software testbeds were developed for the study of tele-operated robotic FSW systems. A simple feedback control system was constructed for a CNC mill and a flexible telerobotic system was designed to facilitate machine interface evaluation and robotic shared control research. Joystick operations for the control of parameters such as work angle, travel angle, plunge depth and feed rate were demonstrated. A haptic man-machine interface was evaluated by running simulated FSW scenarios.
