Description
A comprehensive microstructural investigation, incorporating SEM, TEM, STEM (scanning transmission electron microscopy) and EBSD (electron backscattering diffraction), was undertaken on PM 2000 (Fe, 20%Cr, 5.5%Al, 0.5%Ti, 0.5%Y2O3) ODS (oxide dispersion strengthened) alloy sheet specimens joined by friction stir welding and subjected to a recrystallisation annealing treatment. SEM and EBSD were employed to examine grain orientation, grain boundary geometries and recrystallisation behaviour. TEM and STEM were used to observe the effects of the welding process on grain structure and the distribution of Y2O3 and other particles, and the phase transformation of fine Y-Al-O particles was studied by a SuperSTEM technique.
