Description
The influence of welding speed on the friction stir welding (FSW) of a 304 austenitic stainless steel butt joint was investigated. Austenitic stainless steel SUS304 specimens of 160 mm length, 35 mm width and 1.5 mm thickness were butt-welded with a 3 degree tilt from the plate normal direction. Welding speeds of 60, 420, 600, 1000, 1050, 1100, 1150 and 1200 mm/min were used to study the effects of changing heat input on microstructure, hardness distribution, corrosion resistance (salt spray testing at 1000 mm/min) and joint efficiency.
